There were several reports and spy shots doing rounds all through-out 2012-13 about an upcoming SX4 replacement model, which went by the codename, YL1. The said model finally, got an official name and a presentation in concept form at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show. It’s called the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Concept - the production-spec of which, is slated to arrive in the market in September 2014.
Maruti Suzuki SX4 is one of the few flop products coming from the Indian automaker, which the company would love to forget. With the freshly designed Ciaz Concept, we reckon the Indian market won’t have a tough time putting the disastrous memory of the SX4 behind and embrace the new product. The Indian automaker has benchmarked the Ciaz sedan against the likes of Hyundai Verna - which means Maruti is directly targeting the South Korean company’s highly successful Fluidic sculpture design philosophy.
Therefore, expect the production-spec Ciaz sedan to sport ample of curves and creases, giving an overall contemporary look to the sedan. With the Ciaz, Maruti is targeting the younger generation, so the dynamics and styling are expected to be way sportier than the mediocre SX4 sedan. Interiors and comfort, safety and entertainment features too, are expected to take a huge leap forward than what we saw in the SX4.
Powering the Ciaz sedan will be a 1.4-litre K-Series engine from the Ertiga that is able to churn out 95PS of max power and 130Nm of peak torque and a 1.3-litre Multijet diesel powerplant that is rated at 90PS and 200Nm. The engines will come mated to a 5-Speed manual transmission and could also be offered with the new AMT or Automatic Manual Transmission that debuted with the all-new Maruti Suzuki Celerio hatchback.
Once ready for a commercial debut, the Ciaz sedan will not be restricted to the Indian market, but will also create it’s base in other emerging Asian markets, especially China. In the Indian market, the Ciaz sedan will rival the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and the Nissan Sunny.
